Getting Unstuck: Walking 10 feet to the right

Getting unstuck.

When something isn’t working, all too often, we just try harder doing the same thing.

We put more strain on the same rope and keep pulling.

We try harder.

Think harder.

Push more energy into the same approach.

Usually, the issue is not due to lack of effort.

The best fix can be a change in perspective.

Imagine you’re sitting on the side of the hill. You’re looking down at a scenario from one angle.

What would happen if you stood up and walked 10 feet to the right.

Same situation, different perspective.

Nothing changed. Except how you’re viewing the situation.

What may have been hidden before becomes obvious.

No one needs toa explain it to you.

You’ve just seen it differently.

A good coach can do this.

A mentor can do this.

A trusted friend can do this.

A peer group / mastermind group can do this.

Chat GPT can do this (different ideas to explore anyway).

Sometimes it doesn’t need much.

Just a different angle on the same reality.

Next time something isn’t working, rather than pulling harder on the rope, who can help you walk and stand 10 feet to the right.

Whatever challenge you face, I absolutely guarantee someone else will have solved a similar challenge before.

Here’s 3 experiments to play with this idea.

The 2 Minute Experiment

Think of one situation where you feel stuck right now.

Write down what you’re stuck on and then write down what you’ve already tried so far.

The 5 Minute Experiment

Take that same situation and talk it through with someone else.

A trusted friend.

Or even ChatGPT.

Ask them for their perspective; what’s the thing that you’re not seeing.

The 1 Hour Experiment

Book a coaching session or a longer, uninterrupted conversation.

Bring the same challenge and see what shifts when you stop pulling harder on the same rope.
