The King of Rock n Roll

I have distinct memories from 1988 listening to Steve Wright on Radio 1 playing The King of Rock n Roll by Prefab Sprout.

It was the summer of my GCSE’s and I was meant to be studying. Only I wasn’t. I was finding distractions far too easy to come by and Wrighty was definitely one of those.

Roll forward some years and Steve Wright was a pivotal moment in launching my first book to the top of Amazon when he interviewed me on BBC Radio 2 on his afternoon show.

We joked about Prefab Sprout and my lack of revision (ironically then getting a D in English Literature).

He was charming and instantly put me at ease as we chatted on air.

He was indeed one of those Kings of Rock n Roll, or as he put it Serious Jockin.

His presence on the airwaves will be missed.

Thank you Steve.
